Sabbath Devotional :: Prayer
As I was tucking my youngest into bed the last week, she quietly asked me if I believe in prayer. Something so tender and gentle about her question has stayed in my heart. I have been thinking about prayer in my own life. At times, admittedly, my prayers have been perfunctory. But I have also experienced prayer as a source of power and miracles. There have been times of prayerful heartache and distress. And other times of rejoicing in gratitude. I now believe that prayer is a means to develop a relationship with my Father in Heaven. I have felt His love and personal concern for me. And I am…

MWEG Member Op-Ed :: ‘Joe Biden asked me to pray for America. I said yes because I value the truth.’
“On Thursday morning, I shared both my faith and my love for this country and its citizens as a participant in the National Inaugural Prayer Service. Sabbath Devotional :: Mighty Prayer
A group of disciples had stopped on the side of a road. The work of teaching the Gospel of Jesus Christ was just beginning. There was so much to do, an abundance of knowledge to gain, and many many miles to go before their journeys would end. Their faithful offering, individually and collectively, brought our Savior, Jesus Christ, before them asking them,…

Pray for Truth
It’s been a rough week for a lot of us in the U.S. Our rule of law seems under siege by leaders attempting to redraw lines between right and wrong, blurring once-common notions of truth. This reality played out this week in my home city of Boston, where a U.S. Customs official ignored an order from a federal court and deported an Iranian Northeastern University student who was here legally with a student visa. In the span of those same few days, the U.S. Senate, presiding over the impeachment trial of our sitting president on charges of abuse of power and obstruction of justice, continued to attempt to conduct a…

Sabbath Devotional :: Giver of Good Gifts
One of my most treasured memories from childhood is looking for cocoons and chrysalides with my dad. Every year in the late summer, my family would drive into the west fields of Springville, Utah (or beyond) scouting milk weed plants for caterpillars or already formed chrysalides that we could take home and observe until they became butterflies. Many a mason jar sat on our kitchen counter for days and even weeks at a time with a small chrysalis dangling from a twig or leaf under many tiny, watchful eyes. To watch the butterflies finally emerge was magical — truly incomparable — an experience I was eager to recreate for my…
